Case of the week 140  ( October 2013 )
Exotropia of the Blind eye

45 years old patient wants to correct the ugly ouward deviation of his right eye, he had an ocular trauma leaving corneal opacity and  traumatic cataract of the Rt eye that was removed as a child by a lensectomy operation leaving him pseudophakic. He never regained good vision. Now He would like to have his eyes ‘straightened.’

Because of the poor vision in the right eye, surgery for the exotropia should be limited to this eye if the angle of deviation could be corrected by working on one eye. A recession of the Rt lateral rectus muscle of 8 mm and a resection of the Rt medial rectus of 5.0 mm would be safe and effective.
